Off-Season Training.

Day 1: Friday July 29

Depart from New York JFK International Airport on a regularly scheduled flight to Brussels, Belgium

 

Day 2: Saturday July 30

Arrive in Brussels where we are met by our Harvard Sports Management escort and motor coach for our transfer to our base at the Sports Centrum Sittard, in The Netherlands. Spend the afternoon getting acquainted with the facilities and staff, and take the opportunity to stretch your legs on the complex’s fields.

 

Day 3: Sunday July 31

After breakfast training begins. In the afternoon we attend a professional game of either the Dutch Eredivisie or German Bundesliga (depending on schedule)

 

Day 4: Monday August 1

Training continues with your Harvard Sports coaches. After lunch we enjoy an Adventure Afternoon at the nearby Valkenburg Caves, before returning to Sittard for a pre-game dinner. Tonight we play Game #1 vs. local opposition

 

Day 5: Tuesday August 2

Train this morning with professional KNVB clinicians. Cross the border this afternoon into Germany and visit Aachen, the historic capital of Charlesmange the 8th Century King of the Franks. Return to Sittard for a pre-game meal before our Game #2 vs. local opposition

 

Day 6: Wednesday August 3 Training this morning includes analysis of our first two games. Depart around 11:30 for Cologne, one of Germany’s busiest cities. Cruise the Rhine River before a pre-game meal at a pre-selected restaurant. This evening play Game #3 vs. German Bundesliga opposition

 

Day 7: Thursday August 4

Today we take a break from training and travel to Amsterdam. Go behind the scenes at an Ajax training session and tour the Amsterdam Arena. Enjoy free time this afternoon, before returning to Sittard for dinner

 

Day 8: Friday August 5

After a late breakfast training resumes. This afternoon we travel to Maastricht, the oldest city in Holland, where we will also attend a professional game in the evening

 

Day 9: Saturday August 6

Today we compete in the Trans-Atlantic Euro Star Cup against top local opposition, and conclude the tour with a farewell barbecue

Day 10: Sunday August 7

Transfer to Brussels for return flight to United States

WHO WILL THE COACHES BE?
The academy will be run by two outstanding NCAA coaches—Jeff Gettler from the University of Richmond, and T. Michael Russo from Williams College. The academy will also feature professional KNVB clinicians to provide functional training.

DOES HARVARD SPORTS PROVIDE FUNDRAISING ASSISTANCE?
Yes we do. Depending on how much effort is put into the program, each athlete can be successful in raising anywhere from $500 up to as much as $2000, but typically each athlete will raise about $800-$900.
